WHAT: The 2014 Jones Beach 85th Anniversary

WHERE: Jones Beach State Park on Jones Beach Island, Nassau County

Jones Beach 85th Anniversary happened to coincide with a Supermoon and Shark Week so heeltote.com figured it must be an exciting time to go to the beach.  And with free Wi-Fi which made it's debut at Jones Beach a week ago you can order tickets to hear live music on the beach at the famed Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, an outdoor amphitheater popular for concerts during the summer.  

New features to make your park experience more enjoyable are being added such as free Wi-Fi at Jones Beach State Park.  The park was created as part of the development of parkways by Robert Moses.  On that note, we would like to continue the development of heeltote.com and new technology would help us.  Donate to help heeltote.com purchase the latest phablet.

Learn this by next Labor Day --  at it's early beginnings much of the beach grass which holds the dunes in place was planted by hand by thousands of workers.  The Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center located on Jones Beach has an exhibit area which depicts the dune environment.  Today the dunes serve as a nesting site for protected endangered birds.

Like stargazing on Jones beach?  Robert Moses hired Rosebud Yellow Robe as the Director of the Indian Village at Jones Beach State Park.  For two decades while Rosebud was Director children and interested New Yorkers flocked to three large tipis to see artifacts and hear Rosebud tell stories and teach Native American history and culture.  Rosebud became a broadcast celebrity appearing regularly on television. 

On March 20, 2014 Governor Cuomo announced the Jones Beach revitalization plan.

Jones Beach State Park ("Jones Beach") is in a U.S. historic district located on a barrier island linked to Long Island.  The 10 mile long park has several major attractions such as the annual Beth Page Air Show, the iconic Jones Beach Water Tower, a 2 mile long boardwalk, 6.5 miles of beautiful shoreline, food courts, music, playground, and swimming pools.  Jones Beach is considered to be "one of the most beautiful beaches in the world."
