WHAT: Just for the Day: Heeltote.com in Chicago

WHEN: Summer 2015 overnight

WHERE: The Windy City/ Second City/ Chi-Town / The Wild Onion / The City That Works / Chicago, Illinois

I'm excited to present the heeltote.com experience in Chicago, Illinois from our Summer 2015 overnight stay in the Loop.  We are also offering consulting.  It was magical for us in Chicago..the feel, the sounds, the sights.  The brick and steel of this rust belt city conjures up nostalgic images of its past as a manufacturing base.  The CTA "L" is the second-oldest rapid transit system.  The CTA "L" is credited with fostering the growth of Chicago's dense city as people from the suburbs came to the city to work.  In a 2005 poll, Chicago Tribune readers voted the Chicago "L" as one of the "seven wonders of Chicago."  Chicago has so many nicknames.  Some of which are The Windy City / Second City / Chi-Town / The Wild Onion / The City That Works and there are many more.  Tell heeltote.com which nickname for Chicago is your favorite.  But no matter what you call it, today, Chicago is a tourist's gem of a destination.

We're dishing on where to get the best deep dish pizza in Chicago but we also discuss difficult socioeconomic issues.  You'll get all the toppings topics.  Are you a worker experiencing relative poverty due to lack equal opportunity to available jobs?  Remember what L. Acton said.  At heeltote.com we often look for solutions and can consult your company or you on these issues.  We care, so contact info@heeltote.com.

“Barriers shatter | dreams long held and worked towards | pieces build anew.”

We'll bring you the beauty of Lake Michigan which is one of the five Great Lakes of North America, and Navy Pier, geese and all.  Buckingham Fountain which is a Chicago landmark in the center of Grant Park and is one of the largest fountains in the world.  A visit to one of 3 huge flowers which made us feel as if in a fairytale.  Our impromptu rain dance at Grant Park where historic President Obama made his historic acceptance speech in 2008.  Our jaunt through the green metallic playground of Millennium Park and more. For the ice hockey fans, The Chicago Blackhawks recently won the Stanley Cup again, so we recommend where to grab a cold one.  And heeltote.com just happened upon RL Restaurant by the iconic American fashion designer Ralph Lauren.  Read our inaugural review.  Again, it was magical for us in Chicago.

"It's no surprise we felt a pull here in Chicago, and no it was not someone tugging

on my handbag on the "L."  Granted it is cool to talk about piers and parks

but what about the not so popular subjects such as reducing poverty and pension reform

to help the people who are feeling the pain? - heeltote.com"

Are you based in Chicago?  Contact us so we can start to work together today.  Its okay if you're Chi (pronounced shy.)  During our overnight visit, heeltote.com looked at Chicago through the lens of more than a tourist.  See our favorite photo and why below.   Read about us here

Some issues that matter to heeltote.com are: Poverty | Jobs | Transportation | Socioeconomics | Sustainability | Public Art

We really felt moved during our trip to Chicago so we created 3 Haikus for this momentous occasion: Barriers Shatter | Wild Beauty | Notes of Speech

 Feeling moved in Grant Park

In 2009 Mayor Daley was presented with an award from the National Building Museum as a "visionary in sustainability."  Tell heeltote.com why you're a part of the green movement - read why we are here.

There is a lot of history and firsts in Chicago, and you know how much we like firsts.  Here is the heeltote.com phototour and discussion Just for the Day: Heeltote.com in Chicago:

It's no surprise we felt a pull here in Chicago, and no it was not someone tugging on my handbag on the "L."  Granted it is cool to talk about piers and parks but what about the not so popular subjects such as reducing poverty and pension reform to help the people who are feeling the pain?  We say "No worries" as our Midwestern friends say, heeltote.com will touch upon the issues that matter to us in our phototour and discussion.

Jobs.  At heeltote.com we often look for solutions and can consult your company or you on the issue of relative poverty so contact us to discuss.
Down the river.  We decided to go to Chicago to get a feel for the place.  While there you can take a Chicago Water Taxi or Sight Seeing Ferry down the historic Chicago River.

Socioeconomics and politics.  When most big city political machines ran out of steam in the 1940's Chicago kept its going strong.  A central figure that can be credited with the way Chicago operates today is R. J. Daley, Daley Senior as the locals call him.  Daley Senior was ranked the 60th best mayor in American history.  R. M. Daley (Daley's son) ran Chicago until 2011.
Nice sox.  A person takes a break at Oscar O. D'angelo Park dedicated to Little Italy resident Oscar O. D'angelo who has shown leadership and vision in his neighborhood, his city, and its parks, given by Mayor R. M. Daley in 1990.

Not so nice stocks. It was breaking news that on Monday August 24, 2015 the Dow dropped 900 points in the biggest stock market one day fall since 2007.  Heeltote.com walks by the Chicago Stock Exchange right next to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA ) (not shown.)  The CTA continues to modernize.  They are the first U.S. transit agency to use electric buses.

Look up there is hope.  The "Windy City" is one of the Top 5 cities with the most skyscrapers. Here is the tallest building in Chicago, Willis Tower, formally known as Sears Tower, a 108-storey skyscraper.  Willis Tower even has it's own zip code.

Prickly pension issue.  Daley Senior nicknamed Chicago "The City That Works."  We say it is one thing to volunteer but it is another thing to work and expect to get paid for your work and not get paid for your work.  Heeltote.com supposes Daley Senior would be astounded to know that today workers may not be receiving full pay due to the pension crisis in the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois.  But they are working on pension reform.

Poverty.  Are you a worker experiencing relative poverty due to lack equal opportunity to available jobs because of mismanagement by others?  Your employer might not care, but we do, so contact info@heeltote.com

A cool night.  As the sun went down in "Chi-Town" we decided to reflect on the root causes we care about before we chose a restaurant and then partied the night away at a local hot spot wearing the dress.  You know the dress we described in Michigan where shadow and light dance on a cool night.  You know, the dress we did not photograph much.  Well this is the cool night here in Chicago.  Here is Sears Tower at night.

Drum roll.  Or garlic roll, and the best deep-dish pizza in Downtown Chicago is Lou Malnati Pizzeria in South Loop.  RSVP to read our restaurant reviews by joining the heeltote.com mailing list.

Good people.  The staff was super friendly at Lou Malnati Pizzeria.  And to top it off a computer error left us with a second pizza that we saved for breakfast.
This saved us money and time.

Rise and shine. The rumbling of CTA "L" train on its tracks made us wonder if the train was going to ride right through our rattling hotel window.  We were so close. There's a map for that.  After spending time with the locals last night.  We planned on doing the day trip touristy can't resist things 'cause we know it's gonna be a lovely day and we needed a map for that.

Public parks and piers.  In Grant Park we visited one of 3 huge tiger lilies which made us feel as if we were in a fairytale.  Next enjoy the water show.  Gather your pennies to toss them into the famed Buckingham Fountain located in the center of Grant Park and save a few for heeltote.com.  The fountain represents Lake Michigan with its surrounding states.  Then we spent some time boat and bird watching at Navy Pier on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan.

Birds of a feather.  Heeltote.com could spend hours at the clear, beautiful water of Lake Michigan by the trees and watching the boats and geese bob up and down on the waves at Navy Pier, just the two of them...so very refreshing.  Navy Pier is Chicago's number one tourist attraction.

Sustainability.  Mayor R. M. Daley, Chicago's longest serving mayor, is known for improving parks, adding flower pots along city streets, and creating business incentives for sustainable development.  One of Mayor R. M. Daley's main projects was to redevelop N. Grant Park, previously a railyard and parking lots, as Millennium Park, a key tourist destination in Chicago.
Grant Park.  Next we descended upon the spot in Grant Park where then President-elect Barack Obama gave his victory speech in 2008.  Heeltote.com was literally moved.

House music.  Perhaps it was also house music, which started in Chicago, on my mind.

Heeltote.com didn't come to Chicago without thinking about socioeconomics and the city's political roots.  Chicago's society and political machine history run deep to the city's roots, and it is what it is known for up to today, much like its deep dish pizza and deep house music...it's deep! - heeltote.com"

The Bean.  Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor, nicknamed "The Bean" because of it's shape, is a high traffic area.  We'll take you under "The Bean" where you're probably rubbing your eyes from seeing several times as much traffic as there actually is.  "Whoa!", it's like mirrors at a funhouse.

Public art.  Chicago is famous for its outdoor public art.  Public art can benefit urban areas in several ways including economically.  We support artistic expression.  Read about us.

Welcome to my world.  We can't tell you how much we were delighted to happen upon the location of RL Restaurant by iconic American fashion designer Ralph Lauren.  Heeltote.com is a fan.  Art covered the walls.  We had a corner table near a photo of Sinatra.  Arriving here complimented our lifestyle phototour in Chicago. The forecast was for rain all day but this time I knew exactly what to wear.

Grab a cold one. Or a second cold one in "Second City" if you're in South Loop at First Draft.  If you're an ice hockey fan you won't miss the place just look for Hawks memorabilia in the front window.  From the 2015 Stanley Cup Final of the NHL the Chicago Blackhawks won their sixth Stanley Cup.
